ACTION for Free Movement will establish permanent direct advocacy in Brussels and provide support, resources and training to citizens across Europe to take action against the trend toward a restrictive interpretation of the EU Citizenship Directive (2004/38/EC). The aim is to increase the extent to which EU citizens have effective access to and awareness of their rights and to raise public awareness and political support for mobile citizenship rights.
To this end, a multi-level strategy will be pursued that includes the following
- Research to identify specific problems and define good practices for the free movement of EU citizens
- advocacy at the EU level through complaints to the European Commission and petitions to the European Parliament
- training of free movement activists at workshops in Poland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom
- support for citizen-led grassroots campaigns on mobile civil rights.
